BBQ tonight at 2223 Fitzwater. 22nd & Fitzwater - you'll see the grill out front. 8PM. Bring Food if you like or just bring your awesome self.
Invite anyone and everyone. Remember this is a time to fellowship with our neighbors, those who are hungry, and our closest friends. You know the drill. I hope to see everyone there.
Oh, and I heard Jesus might be there too. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Consider Sponsoring a Child with Compassion
This is what a friend at another Liberti campus recently sent this out. She's been asked by a ministry called Compassion to look for a sponsor for a 9-year old Ethiopian named Dinku Dejene (picture below). His birthday is August 21; he lives with his stepfather, mother, and sibling; and his favorite activities are soccer, running, and hide-and-seek. (Click here for his full-size Compassion card.)
Meredith writes:
"The goal is to find a person to sponsor him on a committed, monthly basis for $38 per month by December 31. The children Compassion serves receive (among other things): the opportunity to hear the gospel and learn about Jesus; regular Christian training; educational opportunities and help; health care, hygiene training and supplementary food if necessary; a caring and safe Christian environment to grow in self-confidence and social skills; and personal attention, guidance and love.
Probably the easiest way to sign up (or even express further interest or ask questions) is to leave a comment below and we'll contact you by email. I can then mail you the sign up card with the info and picture of Dinku and you can then mail it in should you decide to sponsor him. No need for stamps or anything like that, everything is pre-paid!
Sponsoring a child is wonderful. They send you letters and pictures and you can write back to them and create more of that personal bond. You also have the opportunity to visit them one day if you like. Best of all, you are no longer just talking about doing something, but actually doing something to make a difference in a lfe of a child, one of millions of children who live in unthinkable poverty and disadvantage.
I hope someone will feel lead to sponsor Dinku! He is patiently waiting :)"
If you've been wondering how to stop just talking and start living out this faith, sponsoring a child is a great place to start. Microfinance is changing the shape of the developing world and even one child sponsored is one life changed. Please consider this opportunity. Apologies for how last minute it is. My fault. Here's Dinku:

Hey everyone-
This Sunday, 12/13 from 10am to 1pm we will be getting together to help the Jewish Relief Agency deliver boxes of food to needy families across Philadelphia. Meet at their Distribution Center (directions here) at about 9:45am. They mention "Volunteer Groups" signing up prior to the event. This go around, I think we'll just go as individuals, which requires no prior sign-up. From their FAQ:

Meet at their Distribution Center (directions here) at about 9:45am. They mention "Volunteer Groups" signing up prior to the event. This go around, I think we'll just go as individuals, which requires no prior sign-up. From their FAQ:
Q: How does the distribution work?
A: Volunteers arrive at the warehouse at 10:00. They sign in at the computers in the office area and are assigned a delivery route. Volunteers may choose from among the available routes. Food packing takes place in the warehouse. There are 4 assembly lines. Some volunteers stand at each of the food stations and place individual food items in boxes as other volunteers carry boxes along the assembly lines. Other volunteer jobs include assembling boxes, sealing boxes, loading boxes into cars.
Q: What's the time commitment?
A: Approximately three hours. You arrive at 10:00, help pack boxes for about an hour, load your car and deliver. You should be done no later than 1:00, often earlier. Here are all the relevant links and info:
- Email us if you need a ride, want a ride, or want more info: QuitTalkingAboutIt@gmail.com
- Here is a link to the event in our Google Calendar

All glory honor and praise to you, O merciful God!
Some logistics:
Does everyone have a web-enabled phone? If so, this might be the only source we ever need, because you can set your profile to send you an email any time someone posts. Check your email, then respond by email or text, and make it happen.
I don't think everyone will have a phone that can go on the internet though, so I set up an account on Swaggle. The link is http://www.swaggle.mobi/. The service says: "Send one text message to Swaggle, and we'll send it to everyone in your group. When someone responds, that goes to everyone in the group, as well." Sounds good to me.
You'll have to go there to set up an account. Put your phone number in and they'll text you a password. Sign in using your number and password and then join the group. Create a name (I just used my last name) and fill in the rest of the information. On the next screen, click on "join" under groups. The group is called "quittalking." It will send you a text once you become a part of the group. Then you're in! All you have to do is text a message to (206) 694-9197 (the number you received the password and group confirmation from) and it will send that message to the entire group!
Does this sound too complicated? I don't think it should be. Give your feedback here. Are you guys ok with me posting your name/phone number/email address here?
Let's talk about it. But not for too long.
